La Querce Seconda is a small, certified organic Chianti Classico estate that is located between San Casciano Val di Pesa and Montespertoli in the northernmost corner of the DOCG region, an area noted for its freshness. Niccolo Bernabei is the second generation of his winemaking family, and in 1995, he and his wife, Linda Sandkvist, took the project to a more serious level. Their property stretches for about 45 hectares, covering untouched forests, olive orchards, a lovely agritourismo, and naturally farmed vineyards.
Niccolo and Linda are devoted to using only Sangiovese in their Chianti and the couple exert continual effort in maintaining the soil in order to make sure the vines express the terroir of the area. With only naturally occurring yeasts, extremely low sulfur practices, and very old and large oak use; the expression they can achieve from their beautifully cared for vines is extraordinary.

La Querce Seconda Chianti Classico 2019
The Chianti DOCG is 100% estate Sangiovese from their vines that sit just outside the Classico border, and within the zone of Chianti Montespertoli. This wine showcases a wonderful purity of sangiovese, as they forgo any aging in oak. After hand-harvesting the vines, the juice goes through natural fermentation in stainless steel. After 12 months aging in stainless steel the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
An exuberant red with fresh cherry, purple flower, and wet stone aromas. For not seeing any time in wood, the tannin balance is lovely, with a fine grip to accompany the bright red fruit aspect of the mid palate.
La Querce Seconda Chianti Classico 2019
The Chianti Classico comes from La Querce Seconda’s pristine organic fruit that grows on galestro soils of loose marl and limestone. Hand harvested at about 2.5 tons per hectare, the wine is left to ferment naturally in stainless steel before it is moved to 10-year-old, 2000-liter French oak tonneau. Very low amounts of sulfites are used, retaining the vibrancy of the Sangiovese.
We find incredible depth, structure, and class here. Red fruits, currant, plum, spice, light balsamic, and eucalyptus all in harmony. The palate doubles down on the aromas, set on well-structured, integrated tannins and acidity.
La Querce Seconda Chianti Classico Riserva 2016
Made from organic organic fruit planted on galestro soils of loose marl and limestone. Hand harvested at about 2.25 tons per hectare, this is 100% Sangiovese fermented in stainless steel before moving to old barrels of both 500 and 2000-liter French oak for 18 months. The resulting wine is excellent, with a lovely aromas of ripe cherry, pomegranate, and violets. On the palate, the wine features notes of wild berries, raspberries, currant, spice, and a hint of toast. The wine is framed by soft tannins and good acidity. 14% alcohol, Certified organic.
